Born and raised on Long Island, Cristina Negron started out her musical path with a clarinet and a dream...What that dream was, one will never know but at the age of 9 anything goes.
Then it dawned on her.
After seeing a Vixen video she saw the light: "I want to wear leather pants, have big hair and play the drums like HER!" she gasped. So after much begging and pleading one Christmas her folks got her a 5 piece MAXX drum kit. It wasn't the double bass kit she wanted but it would do. Eager to rock, she whailed away aimlessly for a few months until her parents decided "maybe lessons will help". Two years worth of lessons, 4 beats later and still not being able to twirl sticks she gave up-but still had her band (that shall remain nameless).
Being shy by nature, singing was something she pretty much kept to herself and the crowd of stuffed animals she would perform to as she sang along to QUIET RIOT albums. But the dreaded day came when 'the band' went their separate ways. Cris and guitarist, Jen, stuck together. Cris was excited until, a few open mics later, "Hey- how can we do this with no singer?"
Clarity. The first gig was at Five Towns College. Crowd reaction was good and Cris learned to become more comfortable in front of a crowd. It became an addiction! Her musical taste was mainly heavy metal/hard rock, 80's metal and the 'Seattle Scene" (Alice In Chains, Queensryche, KMFDM, Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative, Dreamtheater) but was introduced to many styles while in college singing in jazz and doo-wop groups. By doing this, the beauty of harmony and melody really appealed to her as did the sounds of pop, r&b and folk music.
Having no luck with projects, Cris decided to put music on the backburner and concentrate on the 'career' thing but over time the music bug kept creeping up on her. As luck would have it when the official "I GIVE UP!" towel was thrown in, she stumbled upon an opportunity with Jordan that not only felt 'right', but enabled her to express herself in an open and honest manner that never existed in the past.
Influences include: Poe, Liz Phair, Sarah Mclaughlin, Joe Bonamassa, Splender, Beth Hart, Garbage and the amazing Jeff Buckley. However she still sticks to her roots- you can find her at pretty much ANY 80's metal reunion tour- POISON! and practices her crooning while strumming her acoustic (all 2 chords). |
